MANCHESTER BY THE SEA

 അറിയാതെ പറ്റിയ ഒരു തെറ്റ്. അത് ഒരിക്കലും തിരുത്തപ്പെടാനാവില്ല എന്ന ബോധ്യത്തോടെ ജീവിക്കുന്ന ലീ ചാൻസലർ. ഡിപ്രഷൻ്റെ പീക്കിൽ നിന്ന് അയാൾ സ്വയം ഉരുകി കൊണ്ടേയിരിക്കുന്നു.ആരോടും സംസാരത്തിനു പോകാതെ ജീവനില്ലാതെ യാണ് അയാളുടെ ജീവിതം. സാഹചര്യം വീണ്ടും  അയാളുടെ നരകത്തിൻ്റെ നഗരത്തിലേക്ക് എത്തിക്കുന്നു. തൻ്റെ ജീവിതം തന്നെ മാറ്റി മറിച്ച ആ രാത്രിക്കു ശേഷം  അവനെ അവൾ ഒരു പാട്  കുറ്റപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. 

ഭാര്യയുടെ പ്രാക്ക് ഏറ്റു വാങ്ങിയവനാണ്. ഒരിക്കലും മായ്ച് കളയാൻ പറ്റാത്ത നഷ്ടങ്ങൾ വരുത്തിയ അയാളോട് കുറെ വർഷങ്ങൾക്ക് ശേഷം ആ ഭാര്യ സംസാരിക്കാൻ തീരുമാനിക്കുന്നു.വളരെ കാഷ്യൽ ആയി സംസാരിച്ചു തുടങ്ങുന്ന അവളെ അവൻ പരമാവധി ഒഴിവാക്കാൻ ശ്രമിക്കുന്നു. അപ്പോഴും അയാൾക്ക് ഓക്വർഡ്നസ്  ഫീൽ ചെയ്യുന്നു. അവൻ അവളുടെ കണ്ണിലേക്കോ മുഖത്തേക്കോ നോക്കാതെ ഒഴിഞ്ഞു മാറുന്നു. അവന് ഒന്നും തിരുച്ചു സംസാരിക്കാൻ സാധിക്കുന്നില്ല. പറയാൻ നോക്കിയാലും അവൻ്റെ ബോഡി ലാഗേജിൽ തപ്പി പിടുത്തം.അവൻ്റെ മാനസിക അവസ്ഥ കണ്ട് അവൾ അവൻ്റെ മുന്നിൽ കരഞ്ഞു കൊണ്ട് പറയുന്നു.

Randi Chandler: I said a lot of terrible things to you.

Lee Chandler: No...

Randi Chandler: But I... I know you never... Maybe you don't wanna talk to me.

Lee Chandler: It's not that...

Randi Chandler: Let... let me finish. However... My heart was broken - cause it's always gonna be broken, and I know yours is broken, too - but I don't have to carry it. I said things that... I should fuckin' burn in hell for what I said to you.

Lee Chandler: No. No-no. No, no, no-no-no. Randi, no.

Randi Chandler: I'm just sorry.

Lee Chandler: It's... it's... I... I can't expl... I can't...

Randi Chandler: I love you! Maybe I shouldn't say that.

Lee Chandler: No, you can say that. I'm sorry, I've gotta go.

Randi Chandler: I just... We couldn't have lunch?

Lee Chandler: I'm really sorry, I don't think so, but thank you for saying everything. It's just said...

Randi Chandler: You can't just die!

Lee Chandler: I'm not. I'm not. I'm not. And I'm... I... I want you to be happy, and I'm...

Randi Chandler: Honey... I see you walking around here, and I just wanna tell you...

Randi Chandler: [after he walks away] I'm sorry.

അയാൾ പൂർണ്ണമായ് തകരാതെ പിടിച്ചു നിൽക്കുകയാണ്. കരയാതെ പറയാൻ പറ്റുന്ന പോലെ മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ട് . രണ്ട് പേരും രണ്ട് രീതിയിൽ ആണ് അവരുടെ മനസിലെ സങ്കടം പ്രകടിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്. അവൾ മുഖത്ത് നോക്കി സംസാരിക്കുമ്പോൾ കുറ്റബോധം കൊണ്ട് തിരിച്ചു മുഖത്ത് നോക്കാൻ ഭയന്നു സങ്കടം ഉള്ളിൽ ഒതുക്കിക്കൊണ്ടാണ് അവന്റെ  മറുപടി . അയാൾ പൊട്ടിക്കരയും എന്ന അവസ്ഥ എത്തുമ്പോൾ അയാൾ നടന്നു നീങ്ങുന്നു. അവൾ എന്തൊക്കെ പറഞ്ഞങ്കിലും അയാളുടെ മനസിൽ സ്വയം പൊറുക്കാൻ പറ്റാതെ  നീറി നീറി ഇല്ലാതാവുകയാണ്. അതായിരിക്കണം അവൻ സ്വയം കണ്ടെത്തിയ ശിക്ഷ !
